I am a carpenter and designer, living in a small island community on the largest freshwater lake in the world. I am deeply invested in disrupting the cycle of intergenerational trauma in my own lineage and my communities. I am more interested in the exploration of questions than the proving of answers.

Pacific Crest Trail Thru-Hike: Day 72

Dammit! We did it again! We have a day left of food and two FULL days left of hiking. I think we’re just eating so f-ing much there’s no way to estimate it because we would literally eat anything and everything you put in front of us!

We hauled ass today, making 22 miles even though the first half of the day was SUPER SHITTY, route finding, snow everywhere. It could be more of the same the next two days but at least if it is we can drag our starving asses into Tahoe on the 18th. We got an airBNB for the 19th and 20th, which I am very very excited about. She gives us cruiser bikes to use, so we get to ride bikes! Hooray!

In a perfect world the trail would be magical and we’d be able to eat lunch and/or dinner in Tahoe on the 18th. Also would help with the running out of food situation.

Talked to mom, dad, AND Ben today! It was really nice to talk to Ben.

I can hear the frogs way down by the lake ribbiting ribbiting. Tomorrow we have some biggish creek crossings and I hope they go well.

We walked with the Israeli group for a bit today—Yoav and Dean. They told me they fished the whole way through the Sierra, Dean with his trekking pole! Yoav said Dean could catch a fish just by talking to it. They are interesting characters, and I think they could grow on me, though I think for Alex talking to them is a bit of a culture shock. They are so damn direct and unapologetic. They get frustrated by overly considerate folks (every Minnesotan ever). Maybe Alex will come around, but it can take him a pretty long time to come around once he makes up his mind about someone.
