I am a carpenter and designer, living in a small island community on the largest freshwater lake in the world. I am deeply invested in disrupting the cycle of intergenerational trauma in my own lineage and my communities. I am more interested in the exploration of questions than the proving of answers.

Mile 1422.2 to Mile 1453 (just past Alder Creek on a ridge under a tree)
Pacific Crest Trail Thru-Hike: Day 92

We did 32 miles today! We are so excited for that friggin’ farmer’s market in Etna that we started walking at 5am, and ended at 9:30pm.

Events of the Day: Grandma Candy got charged at by a bear. I finished Atlas Shrugged (a thousand miles later) and got halfway through A Crack In the Sea.

I’m eating tortilla chips for dinner and, actually, they taste amazing. I realized we put in the wrong address for Ammaratis Market, but there’s only two businesses in Castella so hopefully the issue gets resolved.

We had incredible views of Mount Shasta today. It rained, for the first time since the Mt. Laguna snowstorm. The rain was welcome by everyone, since it brought a temperature drop of at least 10 degrees. Alex and I walked separate nearly all day and it was GREAT! We picked rendezvous points and it worked perfectly.

Oh! And I forgot to tell you. Yesterday, Cake said to me and Alex: “You guys are really steady.”

Nothing more, nothing less. Steady. That felt so good and went so deep into my heart, especially coming from such a ‘good hiker’. Whether in hiking or in life, it may be one of the best compliments anyone has ever given me. Steady.
