Superior Hiking Trail Thru-Hike: Day 4

Morning

Today I can either go 19ish miles to a pond or 24 miles to a creek. In 5 miles I will already be out of the Duluth section, wow!

Listening to the music in the morning—yes! Using a groundsheet—yesser! Which, i didn't do last night and now the bottom of the tent is fuckin' wet. Tight. Well, all the reason to take an afternoon break and dry everything out! Yaaay!

I'm in a great mood. Yes, everything hurts, yes I'm tired as shit, but I'm SO HAPPY!

Evening

Oh what a great day. Deer flies were out, and that sucked a fat one but on the upside I made 24.6 miles (we'll go ahead and call it 25) even though I didn't start until 7am AND went the wrong way. I used so much DEET today holy F I'm almost out of what I bought in Duluth and I feel SO STICKY. I also get to put wet shoes on tomorrow morning.

On the positive side, I met Rose at the campsite with her sister's dog Maple and have a friend to hang out with and camp with for the evening. We talked about the logistics of open relationships. She also told me about wolves in the area and ask me heaps of questions about what it’s like to be a thru hike—both in general and as a lady thru hiker.

Anyway, sleepy. Hopefully slightly less long day tomorrow.
