Etna is Magic, Or, Farmer's Market Trail Angels and Paystreak Brewing

August 11, 2017
Mile 1591.5 to Etna on a FRIDAY
Pacific Crest Trail Thru-Hike: Day 98

Things to remember from today:

  • Shirley put together a goody box of farmer’s market produce picked and harvested TODAY.  Fucking today. Tomatoes. Grapes. Cucumbers. Squash. Carrots. Berries. Jam. Eggs. She brought it all into town and GAVE IT TO US! FOR FREE! I got a message from her on Facebook when we got service. She responded to the disappointed comment I sent a few days ago to the Etna Farmer’s Market group. No, the farmer’s market isn’t happening on Saturday, but she talked to several farmers and was able to gather up a produce box to bring to town. What. The. Heck. INCREDIBLE S:LFKJSD:FLKJSDF!!!

  • Staying at Hiker Hut, in air conditioning, in a bed. Did laundry and showered and literally had to shave my legs to get the layers of dirt off. There are bikes to ride around town.

  • Met Blossom!

  • Two breweries. Brewmaster from Etna Brewing left Etna Brewing and opened his own spot because he didn’t like the new owner. Best French fries I’ve ever had anywhere. Fresh cut. And great beer. Paystreak Brewing.

  • Etna Brewing, on the other hand, had live music: a skinny white guy screaming metal hip-hop along to a pre-recorded Nickelback instrumental. That could have affected the taste of the beer for sure.

  • Got a hitch from Gold prospectors who said we should carry a pan with us while we’re hiking. The snowmelt is washing out a lot of ground and taking gold with it, so the streams are ‘just full of it’ this year.

  • Met J-man and Achilles. Those guys really love their marijuana.

  • Sitting out on the front lawn, pickling veggies, then going inside and watching Jurassic Park and relaxing in the AC. Perfect Friday night.
