I am a carpenter and designer, living in a small island community on the largest freshwater lake in the world. I am deeply invested in disrupting the cycle of intergenerational trauma in my own lineage and my communities. I am more interested in the exploration of questions than the proving of answers.

Long Days / Short Journals (Part 1)

August 9, 2017
Toad Lake Junction (1529.1) to Mile 1559.1 (3 miles from Trinity Alps Wilderness)
Pacific Crest Trail Thru-Hike: Day 96

Things to remember from today:

  • Thunder out here sounds very different

  • I’m bored (egads!) of walking

  • On pace with Napoleon Dynamite looking-guy (Mitch maybe?)

  • I watched someone take 2 beers from trail magic (gasp! A crime!). That someone was Alex.

  • We got trail magic!

  • We met Pitch, Micah, and Field Trip (the Napoleon Dynamite guy would be Micah, then). They know Grandma Candy.

  • It throws me off to meet other hikers who aren’t very friendly. Why? Why not be friendly? Even just a little bit?

  • Deadfall Lake today was beautiful, with a rock painted like a fish.

  • Napped at a stream after only 11 miles of hiking

  • Did 30 miles and it didn’t feel like 30 miles (at first)

  • The clouds here are so cool and diverse

  • I miss Becca and Paco and their home in Mexico

  • I have eaten a large (family size) bag of M&M’s in just 2.5 days

  • Tomorrow will probably suck balls.. 11.5 miles of uphill. Trying to think of a way to intentionally split it up to make it easier or manageable, like doing 3-mile segments (I would have 4 segments then), or hour-long segments (5 segments).
