Hot AF and Hiking Alone Again

July 28, 2017
Mile 1222.6 to Mile 1244.6 (Fowler Creek)
Pacific Crest Trail Thru-Hike: Day 84

We’re only 2 miles from the swimming’ hole! Heck yeah! River bath tomorrow! Maybe 2 river baths! So f-ing hot out today. Just so damn hot. Listened to Atlas Shrugged again for the first time in over a month.

I told Alex I wanted to walk alone for a while since we literally haven’t been apart for a month and a half. It was nice! Audiobook, going my own pace and not worrying about someone crashing into me when I stop to get something out of my shoe.

Talked to Arianna today about hiking with us and we are working on getting the details lined up. Also, to get to Etna on a Friday or Saturday it sounds like it will be a push, but we’ll see as we get closer.

I should report that as of yesterday two things happened: my stomach started hurting (that weird kind of wrenching kind of hurt, the kind that pooping doesn’t help), and we started filtering water again. Perhaps I took the stomach hurting as an omen that I should filter water again. Perhaps it was Benny reminding me that all the shits people took in Norcal when there was still snow are now melting into our drinking water. We are sleeping at the Middle Fork Feather River trailhead with hopes of swimming/bathing in it tomorrow. We are also only 39 miles from Belden, so can hopefully get 15 or less from there tomorrow.
