Fantastic Food and Impending Doom

into Trout Lake, out of Trout Lake
Pacific Crest Trail Thru-Hike: Day 127

Walked into Trout Lake today after sleeping like shit. Also forgot to mention we saw Devilfish last night. Turns out Sam and Vice and Boathouse were ALL ahead of us. How the heck did Sam pass us?! He caught up to Vice and Boathouse last night and they did the suggested alternate, then hitched into Trout Lake. We hiked out while they stayed so we could get a head start and be on par when they get back on trail tomorrow.

Met up with Benny and Chill at the Cafe, sat and had a couple rounds of beers and chat chat chatted. Also saw Boo and DJ, and they both wanted to road walk but seemed helpless at which way to go. I like mapping routes out, but can’t be bothered to have tagalongs. I’d want someone who could help, like checking routes against fire closures. I suppose I don’t know them well enough to know that they’d be okay to road walk with.

Food in Trout Lake is amazing. Naturally leavened organic bread, raw milk and raw cheese, organic produce, huckleberry pepper jelly. WAAOOOWWWW!

We have a hard decision coming up because of the Norse Fire clover. It could be another 150-mile road walk or we could just hitch around. Benny and Chill will hitch, Sam probably will too since he doesn’t have continuous footsteps anymore, but what about Vice and Boathouse?

I just plan to keep route finding, hoping it will pour buckets of rain on the 18th, but knowing that would already be after we started the walk. We will have to make a decision in just 4 days when we get to Whites Pass unless conditions are favorable. Unless they’re favorable enough to get the fire under control enough to loosen the reigns on the closure area. Speaking of, it sounds like the Etna fire might actually take out the town of Etna. How fucking sad would that be.
