I am a carpenter and designer, living in a small island community on the largest freshwater lake in the world. I am deeply invested in disrupting the cycle of intergenerational trauma in my own lineage and my communities. I am more interested in the exploration of questions than the proving of answers.

This is Why We Hike

Pacific Crest Trail Thru-Hike: Day 128

Beautiful green burn area. Feeling intensely like I want to quit after a road walk and burnt-up trail. Then Sam leaves a note on trail, at a panoramic viewpoint of Mt. Adams, Rainier, and St. Helens that reads:

This is why we hike.

I took my sweet time standing there. Looking around and around and around with a big cheesy smile on my face. I couldn’t wait to see my friends. I came around the corner and they were all there, lounging by a beautiful stream with snacks and smiles. We decided to camp soon instead of pushing it.

Dad had to send the next package express mail to White’s Pass. We are making a road walk plan to get around this fire closure. Also talking about Leavenworth, a town that’s BAVARIA THEMED! And it might be Oktoberfest when we get there!
