Smoking Lungs and Fish Lake Resort

Mile 1743.9 to 1770.9
Stopped for Resupply at Fish Lake Resort
Pacific Crest Trail Thru-Hike: Day 106

Today started better than yesterday; it started earlier so we had more time to get the miles done, but still, unexpectedly exhausting. I really think the smoke is making it feel like we’re hiking at altitude again.

Oregon is less full of water than I expected, with 8-10 mile water carries consistently.

We made it to Fish Lake Resort, got our package with still 2 hours to sit and eat and have a few beers. We sat with Mo, a woman who unschooled her children. They decide what and when they want to learn.

We’re hoping to to into Bend from Shelter Cove, on the 24th instead of the 25th, and need to ask about Sam coming as well. It would be really sweet if going to Bend sooner made the fire closure situation better, or at least more stable.

Things to talk to dad about:

  • All the SOBOs are now coming all at once

  • One SOBO said he sees 30-40 NOBOS a day

  • We caught Sam!

Also, Madison just texted me! Out of the blue. They are in Bend now; she said they made it to Elk Lake and had to hitch to Bend from there, but I haven’t asked what she knows about the closures or reroutes.
