Bend Zero Day and Resupply

Bend Zero Day
Pacific Crest Trail Thru-Hike: Day 112

Zero day, a real one! I made scrambled eggs, Corey’s dad tried to make bacon (he said it had been a while), we had breakfast and then went to run errands. Sam lost his card yesterday so we went on a goose chase that didn’t yield any good news.

Mountain Supply replaced my trekking pole tips, exchanged socks, and had some fun new trail food to try. Some different granolas, and a Salmon Chowder. Should be interesting. We’re driving one of Corey’s parents’ cars and it is so helpful and liberating to be free to run the errands we need to run.

Next up we stopped at Palate coffee roasters for some proper nitro cold brew. On to REI for lots of food, and the guy at REI sent us to Bend Maps and Blueprint to look for a way around the fire closures. The store was wholly unhelpful, but coming out of it we decided we would do the road walk anyway. We decided we would do it on or near major highways not threatened by the closure.

Later in the day, Corey’s Portland friends came to town, Kate and Kara. They were pleasant. Corey’s mom grilled salmon on Cedar planks, had veggies, salad, and corn on the cob. We sat on the patio with everyone and talked about the eclipse and other things. We had planned on going to a secret bar at McMenamins or meeting Flame (now in town!) at CMX, but tiredness and a 7am ride back to trail meant that an early bedtime was far more appealing. Too bad, since Flame is hitching around the closures—she’ll be ahead of us and we won’t get to see her again.
